I thought I’d post this as an interest. For some maybe something you can use.
Here is Tether’s description of its service.
Tether is an application that allows you to have full Internet access on your laptop anywhere using your smartphone's data plan. No more WiFi hotspots, extra data plans or costly Air Cards!
It cost $29 per year and if you are someplace you want to get online and use the computer this is an interesting choice.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for posting this. It was the type of tethering solution I'd been looking for, and it works perfectly!
will definitely have to look at this, and thanks.
Very cool, especially considering that I'm one who was grandfathered in on AT&T's unlimited data. hmmm.
According to my boyfriend, Cricket has something similar to this. So is this the same thing, or is it independent of what carrier you're on?
It is not tied to your carrier, but uses the data. Some providers charge extra to use laptops, or tablets on the service.
Verizon, if you have an iPhone or a phone with the hot spot feature doesn't charge extra, but others do.
Read about, because I'm not totally up on it. It has been a beat since I posted this.
It is not like Cricket however.
Glad it helped someone though.
